1-ON-1 THERAPY

Integrative and African-centred psychotherapy is a holistic approach to mental health that provides a pathway to thriving despite the impact of racism and oppression. Therapy is a tool for radical conversations, renegotiating trauma and finding more joy, safety and pleasure in daily life.

COMMON QUESTIONS

  • Therapy is a place to explore your thoughts and feelings about different subjects, such as work, home life, your relationships (including friendships and family) or your community. Therapy can also be a place to make sense of what’s happened in the past and this can include unpleasant or traumatic experiences. The work happens at your pace and you’re in charge of what’s discussed.

  • Mostly minority identities such as women and gender non-conforming people, Black and People of Colour, LGBTQ+ communities, and neurodiverse and disabled folks.

  • Stress, anxiety/depression, abuse, trauma and PTSD, confidence issues, relationship difficulties as well as grief and loss. Change something for the better is also a topic, such as finding a new job, new or improved relationships, achieving personal goals etc.

  • Psychotherapy and counselling, sex and relationship therapy, Somatic Experiencing (trauma therapy), EMDR (trauma therapy), African-centred therapy and embodiment.

  • Sessions start by asking you what you would like to bring (if it’s multiple topics, you can decide what you would like to start with). We then explore the topic and, towards the end, there is an opportunity to reflect on what you’re taking away and discuss any homework that might be useful.

  • The first session is an assessment where you will be asked some questions about your background, mental health history, previous experience of therapy etc. We will explore what you would like to get out of our work and whether you have any goals.

  • Generally, therapy is a weekly process and this is especially the case when working with issues such as trauma. There can be times when less regular sessions could work, please get in touch to discuss this further.

  • Monday-Thursday during afternoons and evenings (GMT/BST). Evening appointments are usually fully booked, therefore if you can be flexible with your times, it’s likely you will be seen earlier. If no spaces are available, you will be advised what the wait times are.

  • No, I work online and on the phone.

  • We occasionally run in-person workshops, but all therapeutic work takes place online.

  • A suggestion would be to have at least six weekly sessions and then go from there. If the topic(s) that are being brought to therapy are more complex such as trauma then you might need to spend more time in therapy in order to fully resolve them.
