GROUP THERAPY

Group therapy offers you a safe space to decompress from your week, connect with others and learn new strategies to manage your mental health and wellbeing. All our groups are BPOC only and provide a compassionate, non-judgmental and supportive environment. Our participants join as strangers and leave as friends.

COMMON QUESTIONS

  • Over the course of 12 weeks with up to 8 other participants, we will meet on Zoom for 50 minutes once a week. Each session, we start with an introduction followed by a check-in where you are invited to share how you're doing. For the rest of the session, we explore a few themes that are coming up for some or all of us and end with a check-out before the session ends.

  • Past themes in our sessions have included stress, boundaries, relationships, wellbeing, grief, managing conflict, problems at work, feeling low or worried, the impact of lockdown etc.

  • If you notice yourself feeling triggered by a topic that is being discussed, it’s vital you look after yourself. Although these are camera-on sessions, you may take a moment to switch off your camera and get some water, shake it off or verbalise how you are feeling to the group if you feel ok doing so. It’s normal to feel triggered during any therapeutic process, especially if another person’s experience is similar to yours, but, through self-compassion and awareness, this is a space to process it whether you choose to do it alone or collectively as part of the group.

  • It’s important to take care of yourself throughout. Allowing yourself some time before and after each session to check in with how you are feeling is important for processing and grounding. This can include writing down your thoughts, drinking your favourite drink, going for a walk or even taking a few quiet moments to notice what feelings and sensations are present in your body.

COMMUNITY ✹ PRAISE

Group therapy sessions are a beautiful safe space, delicate but provide all the support and care you need. I could not recommend it enough.”

“Group therapy has been the support I didn't know I needed.”

  • Thank you so much. Really and truly every time I'm part of these groups with you I come out of it with so much. So much perspective and understanding about myself. I feel so much more braver to face life and I feel.. like.. a little less fucked up. You really do a big thing for people and you created something like a second home for us so thank you so much I can't stop saying it. Doing group therapy is challenging for me but you've created an environment that makes it a little less hard and I really appreciate you!

  • I honestly was yoyo-ing with the idea of group therapy and sitting with a bunch of randoms sharing my feelings. But the truth is this was fulfilling, enlightening and enjoyable. You have created a space for people from all walks of life to feel safe enough to share some of their deepest and darkest and I am soo grateful for that. I've only ever done one2ones via NHS and although helpful this one has helped in another way, a way more enriching. I don't have the specific words to say how, but its been fantastic and will recommend it. Thanks for your knowledge and creating this whole thing. This is the definition of “care in the community” Big Love.

  • I can't believe how different, yet similar we are. Every week, someone brings something I can relate to and that has brought me a lot of comfort and strength. I feel a lot less alone since I've been attending these sessions.

  • Group therapy facilitated by Kim has been the support I didn't know I needed. As someone who deals with passive-aggressiveness on a daily basis, having group therapy every Thursday is the safe space I go to to recharge my energy. Kim is great at allowing people to be themselves and not dictating what ought to be discussed and how it should be discussed. Kim has a gentle approach, a soft tone and an encouraging way of doing things.

  • Group therapy was one of the scarier forms of therapy I have tried, but despite being early on in the number of sessions we have had, the group already feels like a family and I'm incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to meet these people. Everyone is incredipbly caring and supportive of one another which is especially important when challenging topics come up. It feels like a completely different healing journey to 1-2-1 therapy, but a really worthwhile one.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

  • This space is for BPOC women and gender non-conforming people.

  • You can read about the main benefits in our founder’s Medium article, here.

  • When it comes to mental health, there is a disparity for BPOC women and non-conforming individuals and accessibility. Due to the impact of colonialism, white supremacy and (micro)aggressions, many mental health spaces may not feel safe or inclusive to BPOC folks. This is also due to the fear of “airing out dirty laundry” to others. These sessions will welcome you in all your intersectionalities with a choice to mindfully explore any topics that arise if you wish.

  • Yes, all sessions will be taking place via Zoom and you will receive the Zoom link ahead of the first session.

  • Each session is fifty minutes, and will take place on the same day and time each week.

  • This course will last for 12 weeks.

  • This is a closed group, therefore it's not possible to drop-in for single sessions.

  • If you can't attend every session that's ok, please try and make as many sessions as possible.

  • Newcomers are welcome. You can expect a gentle space where you can share what your world is like, as much or as little as you want to and listen to the (often relatable) experiences of others.

  • There will be between 5 and 8 people in each group.

  • Yes, group and one-to-one work complement each other really well and offer unique and distinct growth opportunities.

  • The days between sessions can be just as valuable as in session. A few examples of taking care of yourself can include journaling, a conversation with a loved one, daily meditation, having a nap, cooking a meal or setting time aside to listen to a podcast or audiobook.
