GROUP THERAPY
Group therapy offers you a safe space to decompress from your week, connect with others and learn new strategies to manage your mental health and wellbeing. All our groups are BPOC only and provide a compassionate, non-judgmental and supportive environment. Our participants join as strangers and leave as friends.
COMMON ✹ QUESTIONS

Over the course of 12 weeks with up to 8 other participants, we will meet on Zoom for 50 minutes once a week. Each session, we start with an introduction followed by a check-in where you are invited to share how you're doing. For the rest of the session, we explore a few themes that are coming up for some or all of us and end with a check-out before the session ends.
-
Past themes in our sessions have included stress, boundaries, relationships, wellbeing, grief, managing conflict, problems at work, feeling low or worried, the impact of lockdown etc.
-
If you notice yourself feeling triggered by a topic that is being discussed, it’s vital you look after yourself. Although these are camera-on sessions, you may take a moment to switch off your camera and get some water, shake it off or verbalise how you are feeling to the group if you feel ok doing so. It’s normal to feel triggered during any therapeutic process, especially if another person’s experience is similar to yours, but, through self-compassion and awareness, this is a space to process it whether you choose to do it alone or collectively as part of the group.
-
It’s important to take care of yourself throughout. Allowing yourself some time before and after each session to check in with how you are feeling is important for processing and grounding. This can include writing down your thoughts, drinking your favourite drink, going for a walk or even taking a few quiet moments to notice what feelings and sensations are present in your body.

You can read about the main benefits in our founder’s Medium article, here.
-
When it comes to mental health, there is a disparity for BPOC women and non-conforming individuals and accessibility. Due to the impact of colonialism, white supremacy and (micro)aggressions, many mental health spaces may not feel safe or inclusive to BPOC folks. This is also due to the fear of “airing out dirty laundry” to others. These sessions will welcome you in all your intersectionalities with a choice to mindfully explore any topics that arise if you wish.

The days between sessions can be just as valuable as in session. A few examples of taking care of yourself can include journaling, a conversation with a loved one, daily meditation, having a nap, cooking a meal or setting time aside to listen to a podcast or audiobook.
